About the Course

The certificate Course in Apiculture is run by the Department of Zoology. The course was initiated in the academic year 2018-19. It is Short -Term Job-oriented Certificate with a lot of possibilities for self-employment and job -opportunities. It is a course of six months duration with the eligibility 10+2 of any discipline. The intake capacity of the course is 50 students. The course is run in both Marathi and English language. The course aims to impart systematic and scientific knowledge about bee-keeping and honey-bee colonies. It also aims to make students aware of the job opportunities in the field of Apiculture and motivate them for self-employment. The course also aims at environmental conservation as honeybees play a significant in the ecology of nature.

Aims and Objectives

  • 1. To promote the study of beekeeping for the improvement of crop yield.
  • 2. To establish areas of conservation throughout the Nashik district farmland for the conservation of honey bees.
  • 3. To provide education on bees to increase public awareness of the native honey bee.
  • 4. To promote the formation of Bee Improvement groups
  • 5. To act in an advisory capacity to groups and individuals who wish to promote it.
  • 6. To cooperate with other Bee-Keeping organizations with similar aims and to seek the help of the scientific community and other stakeholders in achieving our aims and objectives.
  • 7. To control quality and promote markets of honeybee products.

    Outcome:

    By the end of the course, the student must be able to:

  • To understand the basic life cycle of the honeybees, beekeeping tools and equipment’s
  • To learn for managing beehives, bee enemies for honey production and pollination.
  • Describe the importance, biology and management of bees.
  • Demonstrate bee keeping management skills
  • Apply the knowledge on bee biology and management to the development of the bee industry in agriculture field.
  • To establish small scale agriculture-based industry.

    Eligibility for appearing at certificate course:

    Student should keep the terms with at least 75% attendance. He/she should complete all the Project and assignment that are expected in all parts of the syllabus. Final examination is mandatory for all the students.
