About the Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir

The Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir is an eminent educational institute in Maharashtra. The institute was established in 1952 by Late Karmaveer Bhausaheb Hiray, the visionary educationist and pioneer of the Tenancy Act and Cooperative Movement. His revolutionary work in contemporary socio-economic, political and education fields constructively shaped Maharashtra. Therefore, he is recognized as the sculptor of Modern Maharashtra. As late Karmaveer Bhausaheb Hiray was a staunch freedom fighter and a great admirer of Mahatma Gandhi, the institute was established on 2nd Oct. 1952, on the occasion of the Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The institute was established with the vision to bring the socially deprived masses into the mainstream of education. The Motto of the institute is Bahujan Hitay, Bahujan Sukhay (the Welfare of the masses). For the last seven decades, the institute has been playing a crucial role in availing excellent educational facilities to the segregated and deprived classes of society. In the Initial stage, the institute imparted value-based, traditional education. The Promoter of the Institute late Loknete Vyankatrao Hiray contributed substantially to the comprehensive development of the institute. In due course, identifying the need for time the institute stated job-oriented vocational and professional education. Today the institute has 23 Professional Colleges, 03 Agricultural Colleges, 02 Dental and 13 Senior colleges. The traditional Senior colleges also facilitate vocational courses through various Certificate, Diploma and Degree courses. The institute also has many Pre-primary, Primary and Secondary schools, Junior colleges as well as Residential schools. Today the institute has many remarkable accomplishments under the leadership of Hon’ble Dr. Prashant V. Hiray, the General Secretary, Hon’ble Dr. Smitaa Hiray, Treasurer, Hon’ble Dr. Aapoorva Hiray, the Coordinator, Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir and Hon’ble Dr.Yogita Hiray, the Chairperson, College Development Committee.
